As much as I love Oystercatchers, I must say that Common Murres are right up there high on my list. Pint-sized but penguin-like, they crowd around on the cliffs at the Mendocino Headlands, landing on each other, jostling about in their little brown and white suits. Then as if by signal, off they fly, pouring off the cliff like cream! They float around for a while on the waves, then gather again on the cliffs. Soon they pour off yet again! When not breeding, they rarely come to land.
